Krista Schlenker, who is battling Stage 4 Breast Cancer that has spread to her liver, lungs and spine, says she barely has enough money for food and without the help from Jen’s Thank You Alliance she wouldn’t be able to afford the medicine she needs.
“When you carry that much stress it’s not good for you, when you’re trying to heal something, that’s so horrible inside of you,” she explains.

A letter from the Founder & Executive Director:
After a tragedy, any person can take two routes: a route of self doubt, addiction, and depression; or, move in a more positive direction that includes helping others, making a difference, and finding something constructive to do.
When Jennifer was diagnosed with stage IV stomach cancer, while she was undergoing treatments, we started to struggle financially. Upon researching organizations that provide assistance, we found that there were none in Arizona, specifically for young adult cancer survivors. It was Jennifer’s dying wish, that I create an organization that would provide help and hope to young adult cancer survivors.
The support groups that are out there are wonderful and helpful. But there was nothing to help meet the financial needs of young people suffering with cancer.
In 2009 Jen’s Thank You Alliance (JTYA) was created. JTYA is a 501(c)(3) public charity assisting young adult cancer survivors ages 15-39 to find the financial, inspirational and educational resources needed throughout initial diagnosis, continuing treatment and remission periods. JTYA currently serves young adult cancer survivors in The United States. However, it aims at having an international presence soon.
Let me provide a brief background outline of our program. JTYA provides financial relief by assisting with immediate household needs, such as rent /mortgage, utility payments, medical insurance premiums, insurance co-pays, and medical equipment & supplies. Each young adult cancer survivor is pre-screened through an application processes to verify that financial need exists. The young adult cancer survivor does not receive the actual grant money. Funds are managed by JTYA and directed straight to the mortgage, rent or utility company to eliminate any possible fraudulent use of the grant.
In addition, the organization offers inspirational materials including motivational books, spiritual tools including new women’s or men’s Bibles, music resources including iPods and movies. JTYA also supplies general resource education materials, nutritional guides and treatment information.
Jen’s Thank You Alliance has two programs available to young adult cancer survivors. It is all about creating hope and inspiration. Jennifer was lucky to have the family support all around her. Some people are not that lucky. Those are the people that JTYA can assist.
Financial Assistance Program
The one time per young adult package provides each cancer survivor with a maximum bequest of $2,500. (Mortgage or Rent/Utility/Medical Insurance Premium)
Inspirational Materials Program
The package contains writings and videos that are provided one time per young adult cancer survivor with a gift limit of $150. (Ipod/DVD/Books/Bible)
In the short time since its inception, JTYA has matured into a blossoming organization thanks to the diligent work of the Board of Directors, two medical advisory board members including a board certified Surgeon and Physician. An expanding volunteer base and strategic partnerships have greatly enriched the organization.
Doctors, nurses, oncologists, and social workers in these strategic partnerships provide an applicant base for JTYA as they refer young adult cancer survivors currently undergoing treatment. JTYA is actively pursuing additional partnerships in an effort to provide needed resources for future young adult cancer survivors that join the program.
JTYA faces an ongoing financial challenge as we continue to add pre-screened young adult cancer survivors to our waiting list. Success of JTYA’s programs are measured directly by the number of young adult cancer survivors assisted. JTYA estimates 4-5 young adult cancer survivors are provided assistance for every $10,000 donated.
I personally thank you for your consideration to support Jen’s Thank You Alliance by your open hearts. Please let JTYA know if we can provide any additional information to you about the organization. On behalf of our staff, Board of Directors, and all of our volunteers, let’s partner together to help make a difference in the lives these young people who need us.
In Him-
James D. Pinnick
