A letter from Jen's Thank You Alliance Founder, President & CEO:
With a humble heart, let me introduce myself and the organization. My name is James Pinnick. At the age of 27, my wife Jennifer Pinnick was diagnosed with stage IV stomach cancer. While Jennifer was undergoing treatments, we started to struggle financially. Upon researching organizations that provide assistance, we found that there were none in Arizona, specifically for young adult cancer survivors. It was Jennifer's dying wish, that I create an organization that would provide help and hope to young adult cancer survivors.
In 2009 Jen's Thank You Alliance (JTYA) was created. JYYA is a 501(c)(3) public charity assisting young adult cancer survivors ages 15-39 to find the financial, inspirational and educational resources needed throughout initial diagnosis, continuing treatment and remission periods. JTYA currently serves young adult cancer survivors in the Phoenix Metropolitan area. JTYA's vision is to have a local chapters spanning the state of Arizona within six years. Within ten years, JTYA's vision is to have a local chapter in 25 of the 50 United States and have an international presence.
Jen's Thank You Alliance provides financial relief to young adult cancer survivors by assisting with immediate household needs, such as mortgage & utility payments, medical insurance premiums, 12px;">insurance co-pays, food & clothing, and equipment & supplies. In addition, the organization offers inspirational materials including motivational books, spiritual tools including new women's or men's Bibles, music resources including Ipods and DVDs. JTYA also supplies general resource education materials, nutritional guides and treatment information.
Jen's Thank You Alliance has two programs available to young adult cancer survivors.
Financial Assistance Program
• 3 Month Package: Provided one time per young adult cancer survivor at a maximum cost of $2,500. (Mortgage or Rent/Utility/Medical Insurance Premiums)
• 6 Month Package: Provided one time per young adult cancer survivor at a maximum cost of $5,000 (Mortgage or Rent/Utility/Medical Insurance Premiums)
Inspirational Materials Program
• Inspirational Materials Package: Provided one time per young adult cancer survivor at a cost of
$150
Let me provide a brief background of our program. Each young adult cancer survivor is pre-screened
through an application processes to verify that financial need exists. The young adult cancer survivor
does not receive the actual grant money. Funds are managed by JTYA and directed straight to the
mortgage, rent or utility company to eliminate any possible fraudulent use of the grant.
In the short time since its inception, JTYA has matured into a blossoming organization thanks
to diligent work of the Board of Directors, two medical advisory board members including a board
certified Surgeon and Physician. An expanding volunteer base and strategic partnerships have greatly enriched
the organization!
JTYA partners with The Wellness Community of Arizona and Good Samaritan
Hospital in Phoenix, Arizona. Our brochures are located inside both of these locations. Doctors, nurses,
oncologists, and social workers in these strategic partnerships provide an applicant base for JTYA as
they refer young adult cancer survivors undergoing treatment. For food assistance we have partnered
with Matthew's Food Bank, and clothing assistance is provided by The Goodwill of Central Arizona.
JTYA is actively pursuing additional partnerships in an effort to provide needed resources for future young adult cancer survivors that join the program.
Let me introduce you to a young adult cancer survivor that has been involved in JTYA's
program. Robin, 31, from Chandler, Arizona, has
stage III Lymphoma and is a single mother of an eleven year old daughter. She had surgery to remove a
tumor and was undergoing chemotherapy and radiation treatments at the time of assistance. JTYA
provided Robin with mortgage, utility and medical insurance premium relief. Robin was also provided
with a JTYA inspirational materials package.
We continue to follow up with all young adults on the status of their treatments including Robin.
JTYA faces an ongoing challenge as we continue to add pre-screened young adult cancer survivors to our waiting list.
Success of JTYA's programs are measured directly by the number of young adult cancer survivors assisted. JTYA estimates 3-4 young adult cancer survivors are provided assistance for every $10,000 donated.
I personally thank you for your consideration to support Jen's Thank You Alliance by your volunteerism and open hearts. Please let JTYA know if we can provide any additional information to you about the organization. Lets partner together to help make a difference in the lives of young adult cancer survivors.
Sincerely,
James D. Pinnick
